How Couples Can Be Truck Drivers Together (Yes, Truckers Can Bring Their Wives)

Yes, truckers can bring their partners with them on the road. Whether they are also truckers or they just want to keep their partner company.

But before you bring your partner with you on the road, here are some questions you both need to ask each other:

Are both of you genuinely interested in the trucking lifestyle and spending LOTS of time on the road together?

Do you both enjoy being around trucks and are interested in the trucking business?

Are long drives and the adventure of traveling on the road something you both find appealing?

Are you prepared to be in close proximity and spend nearly all your time together 24/7?

Do both of you have a good driving record in case you both want to be truckers?

How Couples Can Be Truck Drivers Together

If you both are prone to getting stressed out easily and suck at communicating, then this can easily end the relationship. The lifestyle isn’t easy to adapt to when you consider that you’re away from home for weeks at a time, trying to sleep through bumpy roads, managing tight deadlines, etc.

Keep in mind that companies want team drivers to be running 24/7, so you wouldn’t get much time waking hours with your partner since you need to be ready to take over once they hit their time.

This means you won’t be spending much quality time together, despite being physically close to each other nearly all the time.

There is also not a lot of space and you’ll have to move things around to manage any truck-living situation.

BUT—

If you and your partner can stand each other in a small space for long periods of time, you’ve already won half the battle.

3 Hygiene Tips for Truck Driving Couples

Restroom on the road. You can make use of a 42oz laundry detergent bottle. Or you can have a bucket lined with a trash bag (extra points if you add cat litter for the smell). Most recently we’ve discovered these portable urinals. You can also use a small blanket to give yourself some semblance of privacy.

Brush your teeth using a plastic cup and bottled water. Shower at the truck stops so you aren’t a stinky. You can opt for team showers, that way you get two shower rooms for the price of one. Keep deodorizing spray to take care of unpleasant, lingering smells.

Keep some hand sanitizer and wipes during your travels. The hand sanitizer is so you don’t get sick from all the dirty surfaces you touch. The wipes are so you aren’t stuck only using toilet paper to wipe your tush, and then walking around pretending like your ass is clean. Don’t be an animal, use wipes for your butt.

How Much Do Couple Truck Drivers Make?

Based on my experience trucking on the road with my brothers and with my now-wife, you can both make over $100K if you both are dedicated to the work.

This can easily double once you start driving your own rig. Just like I show you in the Trucking Business CEO Training.

That said, team drivers are paid for all the miles driven. If the job says .60 per mile, it’s typically split down the middle between you and your partner .30 each. Both of you are paid as separate employees who get their own paycheck.

Arms, Ammunition & Explosives (AA&E) jobs usually require teams and pay very well. But both partners would absolutely need some experience.

Covenant Transport takes in new teams where the trainer will sit in with the two new drivers. This means one person is driving, the trainer is training, and the other person is sleeping. Training ends within two to four weeks.
